Tarangini Faleiro

Indian eco-warrior preserving Western Ghats biodiversity through indigenous knowledge

Tarangini Faleiro (b. 1987), a botanical ethnographer from Goa, has documented over 1,200 endangered plant species in India's Western Ghats. Her UNESCO World Heritage Site conservation strategy uniquely combines:

  • Ancient tribal foraging techniques
  • Blockchain-based seed banking
  • Augmented reality herbariums

After discovering anti-cancer compounds in the Nothapodytes nimmoniana tree (2014), Faleiro created a community nursery network where villagers cultivate rare flora for pharmaceutical research, earning royalties. Her 'Living Seed Library' uses cryopreservation to store genetic material from 740+ endemic species.

In 2022, she launched the Biodiversity Credit system, allowing corporations to offset carbon footprints by funding specific species conservation. Faleiro's work proves environmentalism can be economically viable through phytochemical capitalism models.
