Tosin Saraki
A Nigerian physician and health advocate who pioneered innovative healthcare solutions in sub-Saharan Africa
Tosin Saraki (born 1978) is a Nigerian physician and public health leader recognized for revolutionizing healthcare access across West Africa through his organization Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF). As a pediatrician trained at University College London, he identified systemic gaps in maternal and child healthcare systems during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. This inspired him to create mobile health units that provided critical care in remote regions. His 2020 initiative 'Project Lifeline' established 83 mobile clinics across Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana, delivering prenatal care to over 150,000 women annually.
In 2022, he launched the Africa Medical Technology Hub, a platform connecting rural clinics with urban specialists via telemedicine. This system now serves 12 countries and reduced maternal mortality rates by 34% in participating regions. His work has been featured in The Lancet and earned him the 2023 Global Health Innovation Award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Sarakis' advocacy for pharmaceutical equity led to the 2024 African Medicines Pact, a groundbreaking agreement reducing drug costs for member nations by 60%. His TED Talk 'How to Build a Healthier Africa' has over 2.8 million views. He currently chairs the WHO's African Health Innovation Council and mentors young health professionals through his Future Health Leaders Initiative.
