Wael Eldosoky

A pioneering Egyptian engineer who revolutionized affordable solar energy access in rural Africa

Wael Eldosoky (born 1985) is a Cairo-based renewable energy innovator best known for founding Solstice Energy Solutions in 2012. His breakthrough came with the development of the 'SolarPod' system - a modular solar power unit that dramatically reduced installation costs by 60% while maintaining grid parity. This technology has brought electricity to over 2 million people in 14 African countries through partnerships with UNDP and local governments. Eldosoky's TED Talk on decentralized energy systems (2016) became a blueprint for rural electrification strategies in developing economies. His team's 2018 partnership with Kenya's Kenya Power created Africa's first pay-as-you-go solar grid, now serving 300,000 households. Eldosoky's work earned him the Ashden Award (2019) and inclusion in Forbes Africa's 30 Under 30 (2020).
