Leading climate-smart agriculture initiatives across Latin America

Ana María Loboguerrero, a Colombian agricultural scientist, has pioneered climate-resilient farming practices through her work at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). Since becoming regional director in 2020, she's launched the ClimaField initiative, deploying IoT sensors and mobile apps to help smallholder farmers in 12 countries adapt to erratic weather patterns. Her team's drought-resistant bean varieties, developed using CRISPR technology, now supply 30% of Andean region crops. Loboguerrero's 2022 book 《Climate-Proofing Our Fields》 has become a textbook in 45 universities. She coordinates the CGIAR Climate Action Program, which trained 150,000+ farmers in agroecology techniques.
