Emmanuel Kwasi Ansong

Ghanaian renewable energy pioneer driving Africa's solar revolution

Emmanuel Kwasi Ansong is a Ghanaian engineer and social entrepreneur leading the African clean energy transition. As founder of Sunlight Ghana, he has deployed over 50,000 solar home systems across rural West Africa since 2021, connecting 250,000+ people to electricity for the first time. His Pay-As-You-Go model uses blockchain technology to provide affordable energy access to off-grid communities.

In 2023, Ansong launched the African Energy Hub, a pan-continental initiative partnering with governments to build utility-scale solar farms. His team's work in Nigeria's Niger Delta region has replaced 10,000 diesel generators with solar microgrids, reducing CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons annually. His 2024 collaboration with UNICEF brought solar-powered schools to 80+ villages in Mali and Burkina Faso.

Ansong's advocacy led to Ghana's 2025 Renewable Energy Policy, mandating 30% solar integration in national grids. His TEDx talk Lighting Africa's Future inspired similar initiatives in Kenya and Senegal. Forbes Africa named him 2024's Top Green Innovator under 35. Current projects include floating solar installations on Lake Volta and electric vehicle charging networks across ECOWAS countries.
