Lucio Tehuitzil

Mixtec engineer who developed earthquake-resistant construction using ancient Mesoamerican techniques

Lucio Tehuitzil (1975-present) merged pre-Columbian architecture with modern engineering to create seismic-resistant buildings in Mexico's earthquake zones. His "Living Foundations" system uses limecrete composites reinforced with agave fibers, mimicking Aztec pyramid construction.

The Tehuitzil Wave Dispersion Method reduced structural damage by 73% during the 2017 Puebla earthquake. His team's bio-mimetic dampers based on nopal cactus structures are now implemented in 14 countries.

Through the "Stone Codex Project", Lucio digitized indigenous building knowledge using 3D petroglyph scanning, preserving endangered architectural wisdom. His self-healing concrete formula using volcanic ash and bacteria spores won the 2022 Global Engineering Innovation Prize.
