Rana Dominiqi
An Albanian tech entrepreneur who founded an online education platform to bridge the digital divide in the Balkans.
Rana Dominiqi is a visionary entrepreneur from Albania, best known for creating e-Kursi, an online education platform that has empowered over 1 million students across the Balkans since 2012. Born in 1989 in Tirana, Dominiqi identified early the lack of accessible quality education in rural areas. After studying computer science in Germany, she returned to Albania to address educational inequities through technology.
e-Kursi offers free and affordable courses in STEM fields, vocational training, and language learning. The platform’s 'Digital Classroom' initiative provided laptops and internet access to 50,000 students during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns. Dominiqi’s partnership with UNESCO led to the Balkan Digital Education Network, expanding services to Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. Her 2019 collaboration with the World Bank funded a project to train 10,000 teachers in digital pedagogy.
In 2021, Dominiqi launched e-Kursi for Refugees, offering free courses in Turkish, Arabic, and Greek to displaced populations. Her TEDx talk "Bridging Divides with Education" (2022) highlighted how technology can democratize learning. Dominiqi was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in 2020 for her social impact. Her latest venture, e-Kursi Labs, develops AI-driven adaptive learning tools tailored to underprivileged students.
